Blink Lindsay Campbell: from WallStrip to Mob Logic
There are not many good online video hosts: Lindsay, Lindsay Campbell, the ex-host of Wallstrip is the best I have seen so far. She is exciting, funny, cheeky, daring, intelligent, articulate, you name it. I loved her style first blink.
So the thing is that in mid January she left the pop culture style stock news site Wallstrip, which presents “an often sardonic view of why certain stocks have hit their 52-week highs” (NYT). She was a host and not a professional stock marketer or journalist. She is still an actress (you may have seen her in two episodes of the last season of The Sopranos, Cabaret Cucaracha in New York, Volvo commercials, etc.), and she is great at acting as a host of online video content. I won’t say ‘WE WANT LINDSAY BACK’ to Wallstrip because I’m sure they have made up their minds for certain reasons, and I assume it can be challenging for the new hostess, Julie Alexandria to get herself accepted. What it makes her a lot bit easier is not just the looks, but the fact that she was a guest host in previous shows. So most of the commenters were satisfied with the transition made on Wallstrip, it seems. But the truth is, I miss Lindsay. You know what? I watched Lindsay and Julie right after each other, and one thing that sticks out: I like the way that Lindsay blinked and also THE WAY that she blinked, very slightly a bit more slowly than hectic newsreaders. Sounds silly, eh? Most of the CNN people, and other talking heads in newsreels do not BLINK. So instead of Wallstrip, I checked out her commercials on her official site. Strange what things you can do.
And the recent news is that she is now at MobLogic. So what is Mob Logic? The new CBS Interactive project promises to make news fun, to be a soft news site. Can it be different from Rocketboom and BoingBoing.TV? The digital soft news field mixed with some social responsibility has these two outstanding competitors. I wonder if MobLogic can find its own profile. Lindsay will surely bring attention & CBS will bring money. I have checked what the Mob Logic site is currently optimized for. Meta keywords: “moblogic, mob, logic, tv, opinion, news, politics, cbs, interactive, wallstrip, lindsay, campbell, howard, lindzon” Likewise, their YouTube channel is also optimized for … yes, for Howard Lindzon. What did I miss? Maybe Love and War.
Now if you say online video show, I think we are still missing the long term solution, multiple friendly hosts girls and boys bands - the future. You simply cannot have one stable video host, you need a bunch of good hosts - so that they can have a breath of air and do some other stuff (hey, what if Lindsay gets and offer from Clint Eastwood or Tarantino?), so that you can keep your audience, and address many styles simultaneously, so that you can have a family sort of thing, so that you can have them talk to each other too. I know, you say budget limitations. But the one-star model does not work I’m afraid.
