Flickr Gets Videos in a Week?
Flickr turning into a photo and VIDEO sharing site: these must be the countdown days. I am really excited to see video uploaders’ reactions, so I keep checking back the flickr blog - in vain. :)
I hope they are gonna be faster with the Flickr video than Yahoo was with their Panama project… Or not. It cannot be that simple. Especially to find a smooth fit-in with the strong photo community. But Flickr has so many community events for its geographically diverse photo fan groups that starting with focusing on these Flickr community videos could help. Not in the long term. In the long term, they could find their strengths in providing more freedom and opportunities for customization for personal video channels, including analytics, revenue sharing, etc. Does flickr have a potential for getting in the lead in video sharing and pose a challenge for youtube? Yes, it does, it has a powerful and well-functioning community, a community which YouTube does not seem to have. And of course, with hard work and outrageously brilliant vid technology.

Yahoo has long promised to bring video to Flickr. In May 2007 co-founder Stewart Butterfield told us that users would be able to upload videos “soon.” This was reconfirmed in August 2007. But now, nearly three years after Yahoo bought them, and on their fourth birthday as a company, users are not able to upload videos to their Flickr accounts. But rumors are flying that Yahoo intends to integrate video into Flickr very soon, perhaps in the next three weeks. (published on March 16, 2008, which means about a week till the final countdown)
Let’s celebrate the Final Countdown:
